Back To School

September 1, 2017

To say that these past four years have flown by would be an understatement. Whenever you first start college, everyone tells you to enjoy it because it goes by so fast, and as a freshman you kind of roll your eyes. Looking back on it now, they weren’t lying! I started my last first week of school ever this week and I couldn’t be more thrilled! The fact that I’m applying for graduation and thinking about “real world” plans after December is hard to believe.

Through a lot of trial and error (mostly error if we’re being honest) I’ve learned a few things. If you know me IRL then you know that I am 1) ALWAYS late (sorry!) and 2) usually unorganized. I basically hate myself for it, but it’s just how it has worked out thus far. I don’t know how  basic this next statement may sound, but I don’t think I could’ve survived the last four years without my Lilly Pulitzer Jumbo Planner.

You may be thinking to yourself, “Do you really NEED the JUMBO?” The answer is simple. Yes. You do. I am a total list maker and have to write everything down. You should see the notes section of my phone, it’s a little ridiculous and made up of a million random lists and ideas. I’ve tried those basic sized planners and I always run out of room, so I decided to try the jumbo against everyone’s better judgement and fell in love. I also color code EVERYTHING. If you were to look inside it would look like a rainbow threw up in there. Whoops.

Another thing I learned is that it is okay to be indecisive, and almost everyone ends up changing their major at least once. I am the most indecisive person in this world. It could be about anything, big or small. You could ask me what I want for dinner and I will literally overthink/analyze/ and act like the sake of the world depends on it. When I came into college they let me come in as undecided because how the heck am I supposed know what I want to do with the rest of my life at 18?! Then, the second semester started and they were like, “Okay time to get it together. Choose.”

And I was just like:

So I decided to major in Aviation Logistics. You should see the look on peoples’ face when I tell them that. Shortly after I realized I couldn’t pass math to save my life. And before you think that I just didn’t “apply myself” (yes, I’m talking to you mom), I spent every dang night in the math lab. Even those geniuses couldn’t save me.

So after I realized I hated that and a few math classes failed later, I decided to change my major to broadcast media as most of y’all know. Best decision of my life. Moral of the story and the reason I’m letting you all in on the dirty deets of my basic math abilities is to prove that it’s okay to not have it all figured out. Eventually you’ll end up where you’re supposed to be.

Next thing I’ve realized and still struggle with is the fact that sometimes people are mean and not everyone is going to like you. I’m more so now getting to the point where I brush things off and just don’t care, but I’m the type that blames myself if someone doesn’t like me and wonders what it is I need to change. I could get ten awesome comments and then one mean one, and which do you think I’ll focus on? Yep, you guessed it. These past few years have showed me how important it is to stick to what you love and not worry about the opinions of those who don’t matter, which I’ve been guilty of. I have stepped away from blogging/youtube/whatever it may be in the past because of the comments I’ve gotten or things that were going around. So don’t be like me and let unnecessary opinions determine what you do because you’ll regret that!

So here’s to my last semester and all the memories made so far. As Carrie Underwood would say: “Some pages turned, some bridges burned, but there were lessons learned.” Seriously, go listen to “Lessons Learned” by Carrie Underwood *praise hands* It is a perfect representation of how these college years have been haha!
