Thrifting Tips

June 13, 2018

I go through phases where I am obsessed with thrift shopping and guess what? It’s officially one of those phases! I went thrifting the other day and bought a lot of cute clothes. I found this denim dress for only $2! #SUCCESS!

I’ve picked up some tips over the years so here’s a few you can use on your next thrifting adventure (because it’s always an interesting time haha!) Happy shopping!

1. Go during the week

I’ve found that I always find the best items when I go mid-week. When you go on a weekend, a lot tends to already be picked over. By going during the week there are less people and you get first dibs on the new items that have been brought in for the week.

2.Keep an eye out for DIY projects

The other day when I went I got some jeans, they are way too long, but I’m going to DIY them and basically fray the edges to be super cute. I also bought an oversized sweatshirt that I’m going to crop and make a bit more distressed. One of my favorite things is finding pieces that I can make into a project. If you mess up, no big deal because it was only a few bucks!

3.Don’t judge a book by its cover

Some of the most basic or dumpy thrift shops are where I’ve found the best things! While I do recommend going to places in nice areas (because they usually have high-end and nicer pieces, duh) I also think it’s super fun exploring new areas and checking out little hole in the wall thrift shops too.

4.Be sure to check out the belts and purses

While not everything is always in great shape, I have found some of the cutest belts and purses (literally brand name) while thrifting. So make sure you check out those sections for sure! Also, be sure to look INSIDE of a bag/purse before getting it. Learn from my mistakes haha!

5.Be patient

Coming from the most impatient person ever, BE PATIENT! Sometimes finding an item worth buying is like finding a needle in a haystack at a thrift store. There are going to be a lot of “no’s” for every one “yes” you find. It can become overwhelming but if you look at it like an adventure and not just a quick stop it’ll be much more fun!
